Item Details
Description
MEXICAN "BROWN BESS"
Rare Mexican "Brown Bess", a muzzle loading smoothbore made under contract in Birmingham for Mexico in a standard "India Pattern", ie: third model ca. early 1800s and very possibly used in the Mexican War of Independence. In very good condition with brass fittings clean and undamaged, barrel quite good and showing only slight corrosion, ramrod present, and the flintlock action still operable. The barrel bears two hallmarks at top, and the right side plate is stamped with a crown above the word: "WARRANTED", beside "FULL-PROOF". Stock bears a couple of cracks and a repaired hole near butt plate, else quite good and an excellent piece for display.
