(1750 - 1801) Lutheran clergyman elected to the Continental Congress and first Speaker of the House of Representatives. Partly-printed D.S. as Speaker, 1p. oblong 8vo., Philadelphia, Dec. 4, 1782, an order that Jacob Arndt be paid 31 pounds for his 38 days attendance in the Assembly, plus mileage. Also signed by Arndt. Very good. Arndt was a veteran of Pontiac's Rebellion and helped draft Pennsylvania's constitution.
