Fine content war-date A.L.S. on "Head-Quarters, Engineer Brigade and Defenses" letterhead, 2pp. 8vo., Burkesville, Va., Apr. 22, 1865 to a Mr. Pascal.In part: "...Your letter...has reached me at this place...just before the surrender of Lee - that first of the final steps for the close of this horrid war. Although the circumstances in which I have been placed, and held - have been such that it has not been my lot to be among the most marked of those who have dealt the heaviest blows in the field in this the greatest contest for human freedom that the world has ever known...my own share in it has been so much less than my first high hopes...". Fine.
