SENDING HOME HIS ZOUAVE UNIFORM...
A nice Union soldier's letters written by Pvt. David F. Ferris, Co. E, 44th New York ("Ellsworth Avengers"), "near Culpeper C.H., Virginia", Sep. 20,1863, in part: "…the papers are continually rumoring the withdrawal of a part of the Rebel Army from our front. This may or may not be so, but it is certain it has not all disappeared...I believe I told you about our boxing up & sending away our Zouave suits last spring. Just before marching this last time the boxes came back, exactly in the knick of time for us to either carry or throw away their contents...".Very good.
