Description
"LYNCH" FAMILY IRON SIGN
A poignant house sign, ca. late 19th or early 20th century, made for the Lynch family. The 17 1/4" x 16 1/4" x 1/4" iron "cut-out" sign depicts a man suspended by a rope from a tree limb, with the family name "LYNCH" beneath. Painted black, with three holes drilled at top. The sign was created from a flat iron sheet with the design cut using a torch. The mean-spirited owner was clearly oblivious to the racial effect of his creation.
