FREDERICK FRELINGHUYSEN
(1817 - 1885), American politician from New Jersey; U.S. Senator (1866-69, 1871-77); U.S. Secretary of State (1881-85). Partly printed D.S. as Secretary of State, 1p. folio, Jan. 23, 1884, a "Special Passport" issued to Edward E. White, who '"has been appointed Consul of the United States at Puerto Cabello, Venezuela, and is about proceeding thither." Within there is a gigantic watermark of the seal of the United States and the phrase "E Pluribus Unum". Couple of small tears, mostly at folds, otherwise very good condition. Comes with another document, a regular passport, with stamped signature of Frelinghuysen.
