GEORGE WILLIAM FREDERICK
4th Earl of Clarendon (1800-70), English statesman; served as Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs under four Prime Ministers. Partly printed D.S. "Clarendon", 1p, March 15, 1855, folio, London, travel document, requesting that "in the name of Her Majesty, all those whom it may concern to allow Mr. George Wallis (British Subject) going to Paris, on Her Majesty's Service, to pass freely…" George Wallis (1811-91), was an English artist and museum curator. In 1855, he was appointed Special Superintendent of British and Colonial Manufactures, which were displayed at the International Exhibition in Paris. Fine.Comes with three additional D.S.s, similar to above document. Signers include: Robert Stewart, 2nd Marquess of Londonberry (1769-1822), "Castlereagh," 1817 (split fold); Comte Granville, "Granville", 1834 (some tears); and Henry Petty-Fitzmaurice, 5th Marquess of Lansdowne, "Lansdowne", 1901 (nice condition).
