Description
Waylon’s first RCA contract in 1965. After little success with Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss at A&M Records, Waylon realized that the label he was signed to wasn't geared toward his style of music or his philosophy on music. Jennings sought the advice of RCA artist Willie Nelson, who incidentally told Waylon to stay in Phoenix and not move to Nashville, but Jennings did the opposite. Singer Bobby Bare heard a recording of Waylon's "Just to Satisfy You" on the radio and immediately urged Chet Atkins at RCA to sign Jennings. Luckily Waylon was able to convey his thoughts to a sympathetic Herb Alpert, who then released the young singer from his contract, leaving Waylon free to sign with RCA. This contract dated February 23, 1965 was the result of Chet Atkins personally having signed Waylon Jennings to RCA Victor, and the beginning of a very important stage in Waylon's career.
