marked Brian Asquith, Sheffield, 1978, cylindrical box and cover with textured pull off cover, weight 320gm, h 13cm, matching vase of squat baluster form, with textured neck, weight 350gm, h 10cm (2) Catalogue Note: Brian Asquith was a sculptor, designer and silversmith. Born in Sheffield in 1930, he trained firstly at Sheffield College of Arts and Crafts. He then studied sculpture at the Royal College of Arts 1947 - 1951 under Professor Frank Dodson and silversmithing under Professor Robert Goodden. After National Service he returned to Sheffield where he set up an office with David Mellor in Eyre Street, working as an industrial designer. in 1963 Asquith moved to Youlgreave Derbyshire where he set up his workshop and family home. Brian Asquith began producing his own silver in 1968. The distinctive cast texture band became a trademark of his works. This was evocative of the rugged contours and running streams of the Peak District around Youlgreave.
