The imaginative compositions by the American artist Keith Haring are deeply related to graffiti art and had a considerable effect on the art production of the 1980s

Keith Haring grew up in Pennsylvania and refers with the present motif to a small town called ‘Kutztown’, where he was born and raised. The figural composition reflects the artist’s positive feelings and his strong sense of love for his happy childhood.



The offset lithograph shows a complimentary signature written in red felt pen in the image lower right ‘K. Haring’. Beneath, the work is also signed and dated in the stone ‘© K. HARING 84’. There are further inscriptions and copyright stamps visible along the right edge, reading e.g. ‘© 1984 New Arts Program‘ and ‘© 1984 Keith Haring’. The sheet is verso mounted at two points on a cardboard. There are light handling marks at the left and upper edge. The image size is 58 x 46 cm and the sheet size is 60 x 50.7 cm. The framed work measures 67.7 x 58.7 cm.



Keith Haring (1958 1990)

Born in Pennsylvania in 1958, Keith Haring started studying advertising, but then went on to study art at the School of Visual Arts in New York. During his studies he was highly influenced by the street art that was ever present wherever he would go. In the 1980s he focused on street art and painted walls in cities all over the world, such as Sydney, Rio de Janeiro and most of all New York. It was not until 1985 that Haring started incorporating canvas into his work. Keith Harings works can be found in some of the most famous collections world-wide. (cbo)
