Description
DESCRIPTION: These are a miniature paint decorated box from Pennsylvania, circa 1700s and pair of child’s pencil slide lid boxes from New England, circa 1800s. The miniature painted box has tiny dovetailing and the alligatored patina that is so desirable. The miniature painted box had "Double Parrots" flanked by tulips on the lid. The miniature dovetailed box retains the original red paint. The pencil school boxes are handmade and one fits inside the other. There is a penciled written label with the name of the boy “Madison Cain” and that he made the box while going to school on the bottom of the pencil school boxes. School supplies like pencils and chalk were not readily available for the average child in the 1800s and would have been well taken care of. These wooden boxes were made by this young lad to hold these valuable treasuresMEASUREMENTS: The miniature painted box is 4 1/2 inches long, 2 inches wide, and 1 1/2 inches high.
Condition
The miniature painted box and pair of pencil school boxes are in excellent condition with age appropriate patina.
