Description
DESCRIPTION: Salesman Samples were common items in the late 19th Century, as salesmen need small versions of their handmade products to show their potential customers, and retailers. Salesmen needed a way to demonstrate the features of larger items. These products needed to be ordered from the maker and manufacturer. Cobblers in making and repairing shoes used shoe molds. We are pleased to offer this Rare and Outstanding "Miniature" Salesman Advertising Sample of a Cobbler's Wooden Shoe Form, Circa 1800's from New England for your consideration. The "Darling" Miniature is an exact miniature replica size of a Full Shoe Form. The Antique Miniature is made of Solid wood that has been finely carved and shaped. The photo's best describe this Rare Miniature Form. The Antique Miniature is in Excellent Condition with an Age Appropriate Patina. Candee Boots was founded by Leverett Candee, who lived between 1795 and 1863, a New England businessman and rubber manufacturer. In 1843, after the failure of a prior business, Candee & Company of Hamden, Connecticut became the company first in the world to manufacture vulcanized rubber boots and overshoes under a license from Charles Goodyear (of the tire fame) under his patented rubber vulcanizing process. By 1852, Candee & Company was firmly established and continued making rubber products until 1892, when it and eight other companies merged to form the U.S. Rubber Co., based in Naugatuck, Connecticut. We are pleased to offer this Outstanding Antique Miniature Pair of Salesman Sample Candee Boots, from New England, Circa 1800s. The Antique Miniature "Darling" Boots are an exact replica of the Larger Size Boots that would have been worn by an affluent farmer. The Antique Miniature Boots are made in a style that resembles the English Riding Boots and are shaped and formed over the calf of the leg. Even the Heel of the Boot has a shapely form with a large letter "C" on the underside of the heel (see photo). The Antique Candee Boots have a very soft feel and one could certainly confuse them for being made of leather. The Antique Miniature Boots are soft and supple. The Antique Candee Boots are in Excellent Condition and have been well taken care, of as they retain a nice shape and form.MEASUREMENTS: Shoe form salesman sample is 3 inches long, 1 inches wide, and 1 1/4 inches high.
