While Wagner-Camp basically say the book is a recitation of articles in the New York Tribune, it is not. It has a decent early description of the Comstock, discusses other mining regions in brevity, but not incompetence. Discussions of Idaho and Montana do include some recitations from the Tribune, but also has summaries and general traits that are necessary to the traveler.
