Description
c. 1884. No. 1975. “Black Hawk, Colorado, From the East.†Measures 7" x 4." Medium contrast and focus is sharp. In good condition with little wear. Photographer Alexander Martin and publisher Robert M. Davis of Denver. Martin was active in Colorado starting in 1874. He worked in Georgetown in 1884 and 1888 [ref: Mautz]. Looking east, the stereograph shows a town with a railroad and several mills. This railroad helped the town develop due to the masses of people traveling through for the silver rush. Along with the railroad, mills where built and the town became the center for ore processing in the area. But the silver boom came to an end and the town is Colorado’s least populated city. Reverse has description of Clear Creek Canon, Georgetown and Vicinity. Black Hawk, CO
