613. PETER CASTAING French volunteer, aide de camp to French Gen. Louis Duportail. Present at Valley Forge and taken prisoner at Charleston in 1780. War date A.D.S. "Castaing" 2pp. 4to., Philadelphia, Apr. 16, 1782 a memorandum noting that "I have this day drawn bill of exchange in favor of Majr. General Lincoln to the amount of three hundred dollars on Mr. Roose Merchant... the bill were [illeg.] by General Lincoln to Mr. Gingham of whom I received three hundred dollars as this was a matter negotiated for my private use and General Lincoln became the [illeg.] to oblige me. I hereby promise in case the Bills that be processed that I will pay onto the said Lincoln three hundred dollars..." Usual folds, two weak areas repaired with tape, otherwise very good. $200-300
