Item Details

Description

DESCRIPTION: This is a Shaker woven splint herb-drying basket from New England circa 1800s. The Shaker herb-drying basket is made of black ash splints and there are two finely carved handles that are notched and tapered deep into the sides of the basket. There is a double carved rim that is diagonally wrapped with a wide splint. The Shaker herb-drying basket has a square open weave pattern woven into the bottom for the circulation of air. The square shaped woven bottom of the basket has pointed cat ear corners. MEASUREMENTS: 10 1/2 inches high including the handles, 15 ½ inches wide, and 47 inches round in circumference.

Condition

Age appropriate wear and patina with minor imperfections (see photos).
