DESCRIPTION: This is an open-hearth wrought iron keyhole shaped decorated spatula from New England circa 1700s. A spatula is a small implement with a broad, flat, flexible blade used to mix, spread and lift materials including foods and other necessities. The keyhole spatula was hand forged by an experienced blacksmith in two pieces. The blade is keyhole shaped and decorated with scrolls. The handle has a rat-tail on one end for hanging and riveted to the blade on the other. MEASUREMENTS: 10 1/2 inches long and 3 inches wide.
