The Sons of Daniel Boone, (Later called the Boy Pioneers of America) was created by Daniel Carter Beard in 1905. Daniel Beard was an Illustrator and author who held positions with Boy's Life, and the Boy Scouts of America. S.D.B. was an important predecessor (much like the Woodcraft Indians)  to the Boy Scouts of America, and when the group started in 1910, Daniel Carter Beard followed the program of Robert Baden Powell, and joined forces with Edgar Robinson, Edgar West, and Lee Hanmer. Scouting memorabilia from the early 20th century is exceptionally rare, with the few uniforms, patches and Order of the Arrow items achieving record auction prices time and time again. This pin measures one inch in diameter, and was made by the Bastian Bros. Medal Company of Rochester NY. A simple pinback design, with what appear to be a celluloid-type clear cover over the letters S.D.B. with a black powder horn. Fine Crackleure, fine rust to the pin itself. Overall a remarkable find. This piece is accompanied by typed note card with information about the den that the pain came from, and a newspaper article from 1989 when the pin changed hands to it's current owner.
