Description
Frederick Rowland Emett, OBE (1906-1990), A coastal scene with sand dunes and ruins, possibly Cornwall, oil on canvas board, signed 'Emett' and dated [19]35 lower right, 19.5" x 23.5", (49.5cm x 59.5cm), later-framed and glazed. Emett studied at Birmingham School of Arts and Crafts. He debuted as a 'Punch' cartoonist in 1939. Latterly he was also a kinetic sculptor and inventor, in 1968 designing the car and machines for the film 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang'. His works can also be seen overseas, including The Smithsonian Institute in Washington and the Ontario Science Centre in Toronto.
Condition
Some areas of thin paint to sky. Modern glazing and frame.
