CHURCHILL WINSTON S.: (1874-1965) British Prime Minister 1940-45, 1951-55. Nobel Prize winner for Literature, 1953. T.L.S., W S Churchill, one page, 4to, Hyde Park Gate, London, 19th June 1962, to John E. Harvey ('My dear Harvey'), marked 'Private and Confidential'. Churchill thanks his correspondent for their letter and continues 'I know that opinion is much divided on this matter, and I do not feel that a sufficiently strong case has been made either way for me to intervene. I therefore will not be opposing the Motion that you mention'. About EX €750-1000

John E. Harvey (1920-2008) British Politician and Chairman of the Woodford Conservative Association 1954-56. Member of Parliament for Walthamstow East from 1955-66.

The present letter most likely refers to the City of London (Various Powers) Bill (By Order) which John Harvey debated within the House of Commons on 26th June 1962, just a week after the present letter was written.
