The glaze shows an expressive color play with deep red and cloudy green accents. The front side comes with a large and pristine area of red. The glazed base indicates what the vase was presented in a wood or metal stand and the base shows the blue double ring mark. This delicate type of vase belongs to the classical group of the ‘Eight Objects for the Scholar's Desk’, whose peachbloom glazed item were very popular in the Kangxi period (cf. Suzanne Valenstein, A Handbook of Chinese Ceramics, New York 1989, p. 237).

Peachbloom Glaze (jiang dou hong)

The peachbloom glaze was developed in China during the Kangxi period. It is a copper-based glaze with various nuances of a pinkish red sometimes mottled with green spots. The glaze was mainly used for objects for the scholar’s table such as small jars and brush washers. The western name of the ‘peachbloom’ glaze was inspired by the color and ripeness of the peaches. There are many shades of peachbloom, the ones with larger, undisturbed areas being the most sought-after objects among collectors.

Condition: The porcelain vase is in excellent condition and its height measures 17cm.
