Description
Navajo 2nd Phase Chief's Blanket, c. 1888. Measures 82" long by 59" wide with a warp count of 7 per inch and a weft count of 36 per inch. Woven with old Spanish churro wool and is dyed with vegital orange dyes and indigo blue dyes. This pattern is referred to as a 2nd phase chief's variant. This rug was purchased in 1888 at the Fort Defiance trading post by the original owner and was sold to Merlin Carlson of Flagstaff Arizona in 1996. Excellent condition for the age. Has had some restoration.
