[1779 ALMANACK]
Description
29. [1779 ALMANACK] Revolutionary War-date almanac, 22pp, 4½"x6¾", Boston, [T & J. Fleet, Cornhill], 1779. Front wrapper is missing and stained somewhat throughout, otherwise intact. The publication contains an interesting prophecy by Lord Kames concerning the type of government the colonies will have "if they choose to be independent..." He predicts in part, "Their population will equal that of Britain and Ireland in less than a century, and they will then be a match for the mother country...A people animated with the new blessings of liberty and independence, will not incline to a kingly government...We may pronounce then, with tolerable certainty, that each colony will choose for itself a republican government..." Est: $100-150
