Description
An unusual design conductor's box in leather covered wood. An included tag says it's from the 1840s. I am not usre about that but I know it is pre-1871 when the Vermont Central changed names to the Central Vermont. It was nicely embossed with "J. P. Eaton" on one side of the top flap and the Vermont Central Railroad initials on the other side of the flap. It measures 26" long and 4" high and 4" deep. It has various wooden compartments on the interior and Eaton must have glued an early distance table onto the top. The distance table includes Alburgh – Essex Junction and Rouse's Point - Burlington. No key but it is in surprisingly good condition for its age. Leather covered boxes like this do not do well without preservation.
