Description
A very nice Toledo sword cane curio on a natural shaft. Made entirely of debarked and stained hardwood with smoothed branch nibs, it has a rounded top that measures about 3/4" across. Six inches down the shaft and hidden at a branch nib, there is a wood button that allows a diamond-shaped sword to be withdrawn from a tongue and groove brass fitting. It is 27" long and it is marked: "Toledo", for the noted Spanish blade maker, within a 5 1/2" area of fancy engraving. The steel blade is in very good condition with some minor pitting. The juncture is tight and the blade returns with a sharp click. A 7/8" brass ferrule completes the piece. The overall length is 35 1/3" and the condition is very good. It is perhaps English, ca 1900, and it is a very fine example of the type. Estimate: $750-$950.
