Description
A very nice early ivory and malacca English cane. The ivory knob handle is 2" high and 1 1/2" across the top that shows age lines commensurate with its antiquity. There is a 2/3" lined silver collar that is inscribed: "G.C. Nichols, Holburn", for the owner as well his hamlet in Northumberland, Berwick-on-Tweed, England. Below the collar are square silver eyelets on a full-bark malacca shaft that terminates with an aged, 2 1/8" burnished brass and iron ferrule. The overall length is 34" and the condition is very good. It is a fine example of a ca 1840 decorative cane made with high quality imported materials that was affordable only to the gentry. Estimate: $850-$1250. This lot is subject to shipping restrictions outlined in Terms and Conditions.
