A hardbound copy of The Romance Behind Walking Sticks, by William J. Burtscher. Published in 1945, it was one of the very first books written on the subject of collecting walking canes. Mr. Burtscher became fascinated with the history and lore of certain antique canes that he encountered, and he set about writing this illustrated book. It provides the background of some of the interesting examples that he searched for in personal collections and museums. He was particularly drawn to historical relics and canes owned by important people. The volume is quite rare and not encountered very often. It is in very good condition and comes to us from the Richard Mandel Collection. Estimate: $350-$550.
