Description
A very nice Japanese staghorn cane of monkeys. The dark-stained staghorn handle is 7" high and 1 1/8" at its widest. It depicts in fine detail, a large and a smaller macaque monkey in a loquat tree in search of the biwa fruit, a favorite delicacy. There is a 1/3" smooth silver collar on a tan bamboo shaft that ends with a 1" replaced brass ferrule. The overall length is 36" and the condition is very good. It is perhaps American, made with an imported handle ca 1895. It is a great example of fine Japanese artistry. Estimate: $800-$1200.
