Description
A very fine ivory cane of a lion. The "L" ivory handle is 1 1/2" high and 4 1/4" to the side. The handle is carved with finger grips on the underside for a comfortable hold, and the head of a male lion is depicted at the shaft end. The lion has a fierce countenance with mouth open and fangs bared. There is a 1 1/4" decorated silver collar with a smooth framed cartouche, and Gorham hallmarks for the turn of the 20th Century. The shaft is mahoganized malacca that ends with a 1 1/2" white metal and iron ferrule. The overall length is 36 1/4" and the condition is very good with several long, surface age lines on the ivory. It is American, ca 1895, and it is a very nice example of the type. Estimate: $1200-$1800. This lot is subject to shipping restrictions outlined in Terms and Conditions.
