Description
A great ivory English cane of twin bulldogs. The elephant ivory "L" handle is 2" high and 3" to the side. It depicts a pair of English Bulldogs with amber glass eyes facing opposite one another. Both are nicely detailed and appear to be barking with mouths open. There is a 7/8" silver collar decorated with scrolls and there is a cartouche inscribed: "Joseph Kitchen, Kettering", (a City in England's Midlands). The shaft is malacca with a 1" replaced brass ferrule. The overall length is 37 1/2" and the condition is very good with age lines in the ivory but it has never been broken off and there are no traces of modern gluing or repairs. It is ca 1880, and it is a fine ivory figural example. Estimate: $1200-$1800. This lot is subject to shipping restrictions outlined in Terms and Conditions.
