Description
A lovely porcelain cane of courting couples. The petite porcelain handle is 2" high and 3/4" at is widest. It is highlighted with gold floral and geometric patterns and there are two fancy cartouches, each with a different hand-painted depiction of courting couples dressed in period attire, in garden settings. There is a 3/4" decorated gold blown-out collar with a smooth cartouche, and a small Continental hallmark. Four inches down the thin, smooth partridgewood shaft is gold band that features a tiny ring that holds a gold-colored silk wrist-cord, tied with a faceted faux diamond. The piece ends with a very thin 3/4" bi-metal ferrule. The overall length is 33 1/3" and the condition is excellent with the wrist-cord that is a later replacement. It is probably German, ca 1890, and it is a beautiful example of a nice lady's cane. It is from the fine collection of Bud Kobler Estimate: $700-$900.
