Description
Drum Chair designed by Cecil Beaton circa 1940 Probably made by Savages, no marks or signature. 87cm high This chair was originally designed as part of a set of circus themed furniture to fit out Cecil Beaton's bedroom at Ashcombe House in Wiltshire. The bedroom was painted with circus related murals by friends of Beatons during wet Sunday afternoons and is described in Buckle, Richard (Ed.) Self Portrait with Friends, The Selected Diaries of Cecil Beaton, 1926 - 1974, London 1974. A similar example is in the V&A Museum number W.54-1984
