Description
This saddle was catalogue # 405 and made in 1889 by the Miles City Saddlery. The high back saddle was also ridden in the Bicentennial Parade. Charles Coggshall and Al Furstnow were partners in Miles, City, Montana in 1890. In 1895 Coggshall purchased a saddle shop owned by Hugh Moran and became independent. Coggshall was a prosperous businessman who hired the master saddle makers available to work in his shop. He is known for the plate rigging that today is referred to as the “Montana flat plate.” The Miles City saddle makers have been given credit for solving the dispute between the Texas and Oregon center fire to the “Montana Three Quarter” rigging. His foreman was Clem Kathmann who was considered to be the finest saddle craftsman in the Northwest. Miles City became known as the Western saddle capitol of the United States. 14” Seat.
