Description
This lot features a piece of railroad track from the White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad in Alaska. The WP&YR was built during the Klondike Gold Rush in the late 1800's. The railroad extends 110 miles from Skagway Alaska to the rich gold fields of the Klondike. This piece of rail was preserved by J.D. True, who was an engineer that spent nearly 40 years working for the railroad. The rail is stamped and reads "WP & YRR 1898 Lake Bennett to Whitehorse First Rail from England 45Lb." The other side is engraved and reads "Made in Skagway Alaska by J.D. True". The rail measures 2" x 3.75" and is 3.75" tall.
