Description
A large Egyptian wooden mummy 'mask', Late Period, c. 664 - 343 BC, from an anthropoid sarcophagus, with nicely rendered featured and well-preserved pigment. The face is painted in a red-brown color, indicating a male, and the eyes and brows are detailed in black along with the top of the headdress. H: 10 in (25.5cm), W: 6 ¼ in (15.8cm). A few areas with losses to pigment and mineral deposits throughout. The wood is in great condition with remains of the dowels which originally attached it to the lid of the sarcophagus. Ex London, England private collection.
