Description
A Romano-British bronze enameled brooch - ex Hattatt Collection, c. 2nd Century AD. The brooch is in the form of a free running horse with remains of inlay within the body. Found near Winchester Hants and Hattatt’s notes on the backside of the base reads 'As distinct from horse and rider type unmounted horses are rare. The missing tail was attached to the native British chain loop, as on one or two other known, mostly with a different enamel pattern'. L: 1 1/8 in (2.9cm). Mounted on Hattatt’s characteristic custom base with his references and notations. Ex Sotheby’s London from the Hattat collection, 1987, no. 1184.
