Description
A large Roman crossbow fibula, c. 4th - 5th Century AD, formed from sheet brass, with beautiful style and with incised detail, the top of the pin catch is very well decorated and there is traces of gilding throughout. A very unique fibula (brooch) which must have been owned by someone of wealth or status. ½ in x 2 ½ in (8.9 x 6.4 cm). Intact, pin no lost, nice patination. Ex Los Angeles private collection.
