Item Details
Description
An early twentieth century silver and enamel double sovereign holder, of oblong form with purple guilloché enamel decoration to both sides and opening to reveal two sprung engine turned panels to hold a full and a half sovereign. London import hallmarks and impressed 925, date letter indistinct but possibly 1910, maker's mark also very worn but likely Gourdel Vales & Co. Length including suspension bow measures 7 cm, gross weight 47.5 grams.
Condition
The case displays general wear including surface scratches and marks commensurate with the age and use. Some quite heavy tarnishing is visible and it would benefit from a polish. Numerous scratches and nicks to the enamel and a fairly large chip to one corner. The push release button is functioning but may require some attention. The interior was likely once gilded but is now a little faded and tarnished around the edge. The sprung sections appear in good working order. The main hallmarks are very rubbed and worn and difficult to read. Part hallmarks to many areas and these are clear and legible.
