Description
COL Four black and white press photographs of Regis Debary's captivity in Bolivia, all with stamps. Possibly taken around 1967. One photo (18 x 12.7cm) from AGIP/ Robert Cohen shows him under police guard; two from Keystone (17.7 x 12.6cm and 19.8 x 15.1cm) show him at a press conference in civilian clothes and with his wife Elizabeth Burgos; one photo from United Press Photographs (25.5 x 19.2cm) shows Debray in striped prisoner's fatigues emblazoned with the initials "P.B." ("Prisoner Bandolero" or "Bandit Prisoner"). Three of them featuring teletyped paper captions attached on rear. Light edge wear and creasing, some foxing on rear, but otherwise in good condition. Debray was a Philosophy professor at the University of Havana and a supporter of Marxist revolutions in Latin America. His book "Revolution in the Revolution?" became the most popular handbook of revolutionary warfare. He joined Gueveran guerrilla in Bolivia in 1967. Arrested and sentenced to 30 years in prison, he was released in 1970 as a consequence of a strong international campaign for his liberation.
