Description
Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Mezcala culture and Costa Rica, Guanacaste, Nicoya region, ca. 500-200 BCE and 200-600 CE respectively. Wow! This is an incredible lot of amulets in a variety of stones, hues, and figurative forms. Highlights of the ensemble include a pair of miniature Mezcala figurines showing wonderfully, stylized abstractions of the human form characteristic of the Mezcala artisans; a large greenstone Mezcala visage and five complementary smaller Mezcala examples also in greenstone; finally a pair of exquisite miniature Costa Rican amulets, one assuming the form of an extended hand. Ranging in size from 3 1/4"W x 2"H (the largest) to 1"L x 3/8"W (smallest) .
