A VICTORIAN WALNUT AND WALNUT BURL TWO COMPARTMENT DOME TOPPED TEA CADDY, JOSEPH ROBERT PEARCE, LONDON, ENGLAND, CIRCA 1846-1873, the dome topped walnut burl veneered tea caddy raised on ebonized plinth, containing two silver foil lined compartments with walnut veneered lids, each with cast metal foliate scrolled labels with handles, one engraved "Green" and the other "Black," the green velvet lined lid with embossed rose and foliate decoration centering partial gilt floral and scroll decoration to the center, ebonized edges to interior, with engraved bone label "PEARCE MAKER 77 CORNHILL LONDON." NOTE: The firm established by Joseph Robert Pearce in 1846 served as both a retailer and maker specializing in fitted boxes including lap desks, leather boxes, chess sets, and tea caddies. Located at 77 Cornhill in London (near the Royal Exchange), the firm survived until 1873. Height: 5 7/8" Width: 9 1/8" Depth: 5"
