Description
Kangxi period, circa 1705, blue & white Chinese export charger. Features the coat of arms of Jacob Pelgrans, director of the Dutch East India Company. Probably custom made for Pelgrans when he was station in Bengal 1703-1708. 15 3/8" charger. Bottom marked with Dutch East India Co's conch mark. See: David S. Howard's "The Choice of the Private Trader," Clare Le Corbeiller's "China Trade Porcelain, Patterns of Exchange" and Howard and John Ayers's "China for the West."
