Description
Pre-columbian Maya Jaina Molded Whistle Figure from Jaina Island, Yucatan of Mexico, ca. 600-900 A.D. The buff terracotta figurine is molded with expert Jaina Island detail portraying a standing dignitary or deity figure posing with a tall fan shaped headdress, typical Yucatan cropped hair below, scarification on the nasal septum, closed eyes, wearing a tufted warrior costume, holding a small shield, large tied knot across a healthy stomach, and, in an unusual trait, has a human hand or foot suspended at the neck. Retains traces of rare ancient Maya Blue paint.
