American Militia Sunburst Cap Plate, ca 1830s. Campbell & Howell, figures 148-150. A stock pattern sunburst background, against which distinctive insignia were applied to suit the varied units employing the insignia. Sunburst is stamped sheet brass 5.5" across with applied silver plated ornate letters entwined. Letters are R-H-G, possibly representing a Home Guard unit.
Reverse missing three short wire fasteners, else EXC.
