Spectacular Sixth Plate Ambrotype of Young Drummer Boy, an early image of a child no older than six or seven playing the part of a drummer boy, dressed in militia-style hat with miniature painted tin drum and sticks. The ambrotype is a compelling example of a common 19th century genre, but should not be construed as military. The child is from a well-to-do urban family playing "dress up," perhaps on his birthday or some other special occasion worth commemorating in a cherished photograph.
Clarity is somewhat soft with minor peppering in the field, else VG. Housed in a complete composition case.
