Rare Sixth Plate Tintype of 34th OVI "Piatt Zouave

Sign In to see what this sold for

Rare Sixth Plate Tintype of 34th OVI "Piatt Zouave," spectacular brightly tinted view of a triple armed enlisted Piatt Zouave, circa 1861. Unidentified, but his distinctive red trimmed blue uniform coat, tricorn style hat, and light blue trousers with double red stripes perfectly document this rarely encountered Buckeye uniform. None of the standard published sources on Zouaves were able to provide a comparable illustration of the enlisted version of the uniform, underscoring its rarity. The Piatt Zoaves served exclusively in West Virginia and the Shenandoah and were mounted in May 1863. This private is armed with the .69 caliber M1842 musket first issued to the regiment and has added a silver hilted Bowie knife and small belt pistol to his armory.
Consigned from Ohio.
The plate is bright with above average clarity and undamaged except for mostly hidden mat abrasions, EXC. Housed in partial composition case.
