Quarter Plate Ambrotype of 6th N.Y. Officers, an anonymous outdoor view of the three armed company officers of Company F, 6th New York National Guard, photographed June 1863. An accompanying catalog description citing a "slip of paper inside case," now missing, identifies the trio as (from left) 1st Lt. Adolpus Weill, Capt. Alexander Ebelspacher, and 2nd Lt. Ferdinand Durlacher. All were members of the "Governor's Guard" of New York City called into federal service for 3 months in 1861 and for 30 days in 1863 during the Gettysburg crisis.
The ruby ambrotype is undamaged showing good clarity with a ring of tarnish around mat line, near VG. All brass heavily gilded. Housed in a repaired full composition case. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
