Published Sixth Plate Ambrotype of Confederate Youth, in Turner's Even More Confederate Faces, p.45. An evocative portrait of an unidentified child-soldier uniformed in a plain cadet style eight-button shell jacket with matching collar buttons and unique scalloped outside slash pockets. Thought to be "Confederate," a contemporary reference to "Harrisburg, Va." cannot be put into context, nor can the military school uniform.
The ambrotype has paper seals like a daguerreotype mounted with an earlier style brass retainer, possibly dating the image to pre-war.
