A late 18th/early 19th century carved European ivory plaque depicting "The favorite dog of James I, with a petition around his neck, begging the king to attend state affairs." Finely carved with the king, hounds, and attendants. Some traces of original polychrome, especially to the foliage. The frame with 19th century museum labels and provenance: "Lent by Mrs. Mosscockle". Measures 6 3/4" x 4" without frame. Estimate $2,000- 0,000. Starting Bid $1,000.
