Horace Walpole and George Vertue's copy with 8pp. autograph notes by Vertue on the work loosely inserted , title within engraved pictorial border, 44 full-page engraved illustrations by Matthaeus Merian, occasional spotting, lightly browned, contemporary half calf, upper cover detached, worn, Frankfurt, J. B. Andrea & H. Hort , 1725; and another, Le Triomphe de la Mort, small 4to (2) Provenance: George Vertue (1684-1756), engraver and antiquary. His library and papers were sold between 16th and 22nd March, 1757, where Walpole bought around 40 volumes of his notebooks on British art; Horace Walpole, 4th Earl of Orford (engraved armorial bookplate. Note in another hand 'bought at Vertue's sale. 0-11-6, the Ms account by him').
